If you are looking for a great gaming getaway that is easily accessible from anywhere in the south, look no further than Cable Beach Resorts & Crystal Palace Casino in Nassau, Bahamas. The resort operates the Wyndham Nassau Resort and the all-new Sheraton Cable Beach Resort where guests can indulge in the amenities and benefits of both properties no matter which one they are actually staying at. Together, both properties offer 1,541 guest rooms and suites, most boasting incredible views of the ocean, fifteen restaurants and lounges, a premier tennis facility and an 18-hole golf course. Affordable and easy-to-get-to, this Bahamian gem warrants a visit if you are looking for a quick trip!

On a recent visit to the property, the resort offered a well-rounded selection of activities, dining and, of course, leisure time!

The resort has a beautiful pool with access to a convenient swim-up bar. There are also great areas around the pool and beach with hammocks, cabanas and shaded nooks to relax and take in the calming ocean air. Sounds like a post card doesn’t it? To add to the fantasy, the new VIP Crystal Beach Club allows Platinum and Gold Passport Rewards Club members the opportunity to indulge in a massage at the resort cabana on the beach. It is a heavenly, and highly recommended, experience.

The resort also has the usual water sports including parasailing, jet skiing, paddle boats, snorkeling and much more. In addition to these activities, a resort representative will assist in scheduling additional tours and off-resort pass times.

Dining is a focal part of any enjoyable vacation, and at Cable Beach there is no shortage of fine restaurants and eateries. When not enjoying the beautiful weather outside, indulge in one of the many restaurants or lounges. Breakfast at the Seaside Buffet is an easy, affordable and quaint option that won’t take too long, getting you out in the sun promptly. A classic favorite here is the omelet made to your exact specification while you watch. After all, you need your strength to get through a tough day of relaxing, shopping and gaming.

There is also a Starbucks, for coffee lovers, and a deli right in the casino for a light lunch or late night snacks. Make sure to try the Guava Duff from the deli tray, a Bahamian dessert covered in a warm rum sauce that is to die for. While you are trying to decide what to have for dinner, or having a drink at 22 Above (a lounge that overlooks the entire casino), keep in mind the resort has three fine dining restaurants that will cater to a variety of palates. Moso is the newest addition that serves Chinese, Japanese and Thai foods; Black Angus Grille is a premier, high-end steakhouse with select meat cuts and a relaxing atmosphere; and Sole Mare is ideal for the finest in fresh seafood. Be sure to look for more about the properties dining options in the Southern Gaming Casino Dining Guide in November. One thing is for sure, you won’t have to worry about being hungry after eating at any of these restaurants. And, yes, you should try them all!

Cable Beach Resorts calls itself the premier entertainment destination of the Bahamas, so before you finalize your trip be sure to check the upcoming events and acts at www.cablebeachresorts.com and try to plan accordingly. Leann Rimes was the headline show while I was there and it was a great performance in an intimate setting. If you prefer your entertainment outside they also have afternoon concerts on the beach with some of the same performers. Upcoming resort entertainment includes Comedian Howie Mandel on June 23 and 24 as well as Earth, Wind & Fire on November 3 and 4.

A Caribbean trip would not be complete without a visit to the casino. Open twenty-four hours, the Las Vegas-style casino is 35,000 square-feet of slot machines and table games, as well as a sports and race book. Featuring exciting and enticing tournaments, the casino is a great way to add some excitement to your vacation. Currently, the Everyone Wins! Tournaments are vastly popular among guests. Gamers can win guaranteed prizes ranging from $100 Free Play to $10,000 cash when they enter one of the tournaments. With separate tournaments for Blackjack (September 14-15), Poker (July 27-28, September?28?29 and November 16-17), Craps (September 21-22) and Slots (September 7-8 and October 26-27), the format allows invited guests to participate and take their share of the winnings. Once entered in the tournaments, the casino awards random prizes of $5 to $10,000 in cash or free play to the guests daily! Since last year, the casino has awarded over $2 million in cash and free play to over 90,000 participants.

The casino has all of the games you would want without having the overwhelming feeling of a mega-casino. You can stand at one end and see the whole casino or look down from 22 Above to find your lucky slot machine or winning table.

Cable Beach Resorts & Crystal Palace Casino has become known as somewhat of a staple on the tourist-ridden island of Nassau and is on track to be the premier destination in the region with a re-branding initiative by Baha Mar Resorts Ltd., which owns and operates Cable Beach Resorts. In November 2005, Baha Mar announced that it had formed an unprecedented relationship to develop a mega-resort on magnificent Cable Beach with two of the world’s best-known gaming and hospitality companies-Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. and Sheraton’s parent company, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.-and it hasn’t looked back since. The plans to develop what is considered a mega-resort include the gaming expertise of Harrah’s Entertainment on the casino side with the Starwood management team on the hotel side.

Baha Mar will be a 1,000 acre, mixed-use, one-of-a-kind project that will be like nothing the Bahamas has ever seen. In addition to the hotels and spas, they will also boast a 1,000 room Caesars Resort Hotel and a 95,000 square-foot Caesars Palace Casino as well as a free-standing luxury spa facility, the largest in the Caribbean. There will also be an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and a 50,000 square-foot village with upscale retail, chef-branded restaurants and entertainment venues. Construction has already begun and is scheduled to be completed in 2010. The entire project is estimated at more than $2 billion!

As great as Cable Beach Resorts & Crystal Palace Casino is, be sure to make time to take one of the educational tours of the island. It may seem like a “touristy” thing to do, but Nassau has a great history with some beautiful and unusual places off the beaten path. Anytime you visit some place new you should learn something about the people who live there, their history and culture. Otherwise, why leave home?
